Rugby Match Vs Wells Blue School – Year 7 & 8
Year 7 and 8 Rugby teams started the rugby season with fixtures against Wells Blue School. Both teams played well against more experienced opponents and should be proud of their efforts. Year 7 ran in a number of try’s before narrowly losing by 10 in the final stages. Year 8 made a slow start, playing uphill and into the wind and found it hard to find a rythym with their passing. They went into the half 20-0 down. A much improved scrum and some good kicking in the second half allowed year 8 to really push the opposition back and they twice came within 5 yards of the try line only to be denied by some outstanding defensive work from the Wells Blue team. The match ended 30-0. MR FOWLER
RUGBY MATCH vs SELWOOD ACADEMY REPORT
The year 7’s again battled bravely against a strong Selwood team and showed much improvement despite missing a number of key players. Some strong tackles and friendly rivalry made for an excellent spectacle and Oakfield scored impressive try’s through strong running and a number of good passing moves by the backs. Selwood’s clear size advantage was to eventually win them the match with our boys fighting hard but being unable to stop a number of very strong players from breaking through to score a try. Final score 35-20 to Selwood Academy.
Year 8 came out raring to go from the first whistle and the game was very tight with neither team giving possession or yardage away easily. It was Selwood who scored first after 12 mins, exploiting a size advantage miss-match on the Oakfield wing. Oakfield responded quickly with a superb solo run from the Oakfield Man of the match Ty Longfellow. Selwood would score next with a knock on in front of our post to blame. Selwood won the scrum and barged over the line from short distance. Oakfield not disheartened responded almost instantly with some outstanding passing play out to the wings to tie the match at 10-10. With the score 15-15 at half-time it was anyone’s game and it would come down to tiredness eventually leading to Oakfield letting in two try’s minutes from the end of the match. Whilst the score was disappointing, the match was certainly not and Oakfield appeared a transformed team from the one that lost to Wells Blue in the previous match. Much improved tackling, rucking, passing and teamwork has now left Oakfield’s year 8 team looking like a force to be reckoned with.
