Performing arts

Oakfield holds a Gold Arts Mark in recognition of our outstanding arts provision. Our Specialist Performing Arts Team: Ms Claire Parsons (Head of Performing Arts,) Mrs Kate Stewart (Head of Art,) Mrs Rosie Nicholson (Drama Teacher.) Our Year Group Curriculum Team Leaders: years 8 & 7 (KS3) Mrs Paula Royle and Mrs Kate Stewart. Years 5 & 6 (KS2) Ms Sian Spoerer. 2014 production of Monsters and Magic: Oakfield pupils wrote the script for this years production of 'Monsters and Magic' which featured two acts - Beauty and the Beast and the Tempest.  Pupils from all year groups had the opportunity to take part in every aspect of the production, including: acting, singing, dance, lighting, video, costume, make up, ticket sales, props and scenery. In the spring/ summer 2014 terms, over 80 pupils took part in our sell out Blues and Beyond Evening, which showcased the wealth of musical talent here at the academy.  The academy is also working with the Jackdaws Music Trust  enabling pupils to work with classical music specialists and take part in Song Story, 'Year of the Guitar' and the annual Summer Picnic. In 2013 pupils took part in the Frome Carnival and the Shakespeare Schools Festival as well as participating in Carducci Quartet workshops and performance. 2013 production of Midsummer Nights Dream: At the Academy we encourage all pupils to develop their creativity and devise their own performance and music. We currently have two bands in the school and an annual 'Oakfield's Got Talent' competition. The Performing Arts Faculty organises a variety of trips to galleries and theatres as well as collaborating, most particularly, with local arts venues The Silk Mill, (In 2013 we took part in Somerset Arts Week) and the Black Swan Gallery. Oakfield also regularly invites specialist arts teachers to run workshops at Oakfield in animation, film and art. Find out more: Oakfield Art and Design  |   Oakfield Music  |  Oakfield Drama Oakfield has a strong performing arts tradition with an exceptional team of arts teachers, who not only work hard to provide an outstanding arts curriculum but also to offer a range of after school clubs and opportunities including: orchestra, choir, samba marching band, puppetry, dance and art. Our arts facilities include a fully equipped art room, drama studio, a newly renovated main indoor stage as well as an outdoor stage set in our award winning gardens. The Marjanki visit: Polish Folk Group, The Marjanki, perform on the outdoor stage and watch performances from our pupils as part of the town twinning project.
