Oakfield Fundraisers give funding towards a new Oakfield football kit
The Key stage two football teams were presented with a brand new Oakfield Academy kit before they left for their fixture against Millfield on Thursday afternoon. The new kit, styled in the traditional red and black of Oakfield PE and team kits looked very smart and brought smiles to the faces of all who proudly pulled on the new jerseys. Little were they to know that the kit would help to inspire them, to two excellent results against the always strong Millfield specialist sports school later that afternoon. The PE department and pupils of Oakfield would like to thank the Oakfield fundraisers who raised the money for the new kit.
First outing in new kit a huge success!
Oakfield Academy KS2 Football – RESULTS
Oakfield 3 – 2 Millfield (Team 2)
Oakfield 4 – 4 Millfield (Team 1)
Revved up before Kick-Off by the prospect of a home cooked meal courtesy of Millfield Canteen, the boys were raring to go as the whistle sounded at 3:30pm on a breezy and bitterly cold Thursday afternoon in February. It was Oakfield who started strongest in both matches, closing the ball down early when the opposition had possession and finding space for themselves when Oakfield had the ball. The boys created many chances in the opening minutes from great work on the wings by Lewis W., Jayden W. and our two strikers Ciaran W and Alfie R. Millfield had the odd counter attack which resulted in a string of great saves on both pitches by Academy keepers Ben B. and Billy B. Oakfield’s electrifying start and pace paid off on the 7th minute, when a Lewis W’s cross was converted into the back of the net by a hapless Millfield defender to make it one nothing. Rudi B coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the Millfield goal from outside of the area to make it 2-0 minutes later. The third Oakfield goal came when a corner dropped to the left boot of Lewis W. who converted stylishly on the volley from the centre of the goal ten yards out. Jubilation as the ball smashed into the back of the net and the realisation set in that we were 3-0 up. Millfield scraped one back before half-time as a long ball caught Oakfield out, we did not panic and held strong into the second half to see the win out despite an additional Millfield goal. A mention to be given to an audacious attempt on goal by Ciaran W. who struck the ball from close to the half way line only to see it clatter off of the bar and high up into the air. On pitch two Oakfield came back from being 4-2 down to secure a well-earned draw. The team showed great character and all players that travelled to Millfield should be proud of how they represented Oakfield on and off of the pitch. A thoroughly deserved well done to all pupils!
